Amber Valdez (she/her)

Hi! I’m Amber. I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at Western New Mexico University, and I’m joining Solum Life Therapy as a student therapist.

I’m excited to be a part of a practice that values balance, connection, and healing. My focus of study is Ecotherapy, also known as nature therapy. Ecotherapy is a therapeutic practice that focuses on reconnecting with the natural world to improve mental health and well-being.

My Approach

My inspiration to pursue further education was inspired by both my family and the clients I’ve worked with. My family instilled in me the values of empathy, care, and perseverance. And my clients—through their courage, vulnerability, and playfulness—showed me the profound healing that becomes possible when people feel supported and empowered.

With a background in wilderness leadership, I’m passionate about the transformative power of nature—especially for those who have faced trauma or have been historically excluded from outdoor spaces. My vision is to integrate therapeutic practice with time in the natural world, helping people reconnect with their inner wisdom, foster resilience, and experience lasting healing.

I am especially drawn to working with first responders, whose roles often involve trauma exposure, chronic stress, emotional suppression, and persistent stigma around seeking mental health support. I strive to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for individuals to process these experiences and collaborate on building operational readiness, emotional resilience, and long-term well-being.

I am equally passionate about supporting our local Native Nations and tribal communities, where access to adequate health resources is often limited. Yet, the connection to land and tradition runs deep. My work focuses on creating inclusive, culturally grounded spaces that honor the unique strengths, histories, and healing practices of Indigenous peoples. I meet individuals where they are—recognizing the importance of community, identity, and land-based approaches in fostering resilience and well-being.
